TypeBench indexes the font folders you already keep - on your Mac, an external drive, a mounted share - and leaves every file exactly where it is. Built for people who work with type all day.
Nothing is moved, nothing is copied
TypeBench watches the folders you choose and builds its own index next to them. It never copies fonts into a library of its own, never moves them and never rewrites them. The app ships with a read-only file entitlement, so it cannot modify your font files even by accident. Reorganize a folder and the library follows.
Families are grouped the way a typographer expects: one entry per typographic family, styles ordered by width, weight and slope.
See the type, not a list
A style list rendered in your own sample text at any size, a waterfall ladder to judge a face across sizes, a glyph grid for coverage checks, a compare view for putting families side by side - in light and in dark.
No webfonts on this page. Every specimen above is rendered live by fonts already installed on your Mac - the same way TypeBench previews your own library. The app works the same way: no account, no cloud, no network access at all.

Activate what you need
Activation is system-wide through CoreText: an activated family shows up in every app that lists fonts. Deactivate and the font menu becomes readable again. The state survives quitting the app and restarting the Mac, and is reconciled at launch.
